Tutoring Policies
The following policies apply to all services provided by Ladder Learning Services:
Cancellation
All lessons set for a specific time and day are subject to a 48-hour cancellation policy. Lessons which have been pre-paid will be made up at another date and time agreeable to the parties. If the tutor is given less than 48 hours’ notice of a lesson cancellation or reschedule, then rescheduling is at the tutors’ sole discretion. If a lesson is cancelled by the student with less than 48 hours’ notice, they are responsible for paying for the lesson in full. This includes on-line as well as in-person tutoring. If the tutor needs to cancel a lesson which has already been paid for, then the client will be repaid in full for that lesson.
The 48-hour policy does not apply in the case of emergencies (such as illness of client or client’s child); in the event of an emergency the lesson can be either rescheduled or refunded at the tutors’ discretion. It is highly preferred if in-person lessons are rescheduled or conducted on-line when either party has a contagious illness.
Extra Materials
Materials required for in-person lessons, including pencils, paper, worksheets and basic multisensory materials shall be provided by the tutor and included in the tutoring fee. Extra materials required such as handwriting workbooks, math books and other textbooks for the client to keep, and multisensory materials beyond what is normally provided shall be discussed with the client and purchased upon the client’s discretion. Every effort shall be made by the tutor to keep materials costs reasonable.
For online clients, worksheets will be provided; however, clients must have their own means of printing out worksheets and must purchase or provide all of their own physical supplies.
Travel Fees
Any travel required by tutor outside of the base tutoring area (see below) shall be billed an extra rate to be determined by the tutor. Please contact us for further details.

Student Behavior
It is understood that all students should be able to do the following on a consistent basis:
- Listen to tutor and follow simple verbal instructions
- Be willing to try new learning techniques
- Be able to let the tutor know if adjustments are needed to lessons
- Arrive on time and be ready to learn
- Respect the tutor’s property
- Give the tutor basic information and feedback about the learning process
- Treat the tutor with respect
When needed to correct problem behaviors interfering with the student’s learning process, the tutor will implement the following behavior management program: The Token Bank system. This system is an immediate-feedback positive-reinforcement system which works on the theory of operant conditioning. See this page for more information. The tutor has many small “prizes” available for the student to spend his/her tokens on, or the parents/guardians can provide the incentive.
Should use of the Token Bank system or other positive behavior management technique not improve behavior of the student, a meeting will be called with the student, his/her parents, and any other interested parties to discuss further options.
Tutoring Contract
All clients are to complete and sign a tutoring contract prior to the start of lessons.
Any questions about these policies should be directed to H. Dite Bray, owner.
